Oh My!

Posted on: June 29, 2012

Its been a while since I posted!! The last few months have been a blur! Big milestones to talk about! The boys turned 1 year on June 5th! We almost bought a house( we finally DID NOT, but that’s a long story)…and we took our 1st vacation!

The BIG ONE

Cant believe my babies are already one!! It felt like just yesterday that we were rushing to the hospital when my water broke, and holding them soon after, so tiny and beautiful in my arms.  Now, Adi walks around, and Aru shows us the squirrels in the yard… They babel and scream, cry and laugh, get angry and hurt, fight and share… they are growing up so quickly!

We celebrated their 1st birthday with an outdoor party at the apartment’s pavilion. It was a HOT HOT day… almost 95 degrees, but we somehow managed to survive it! We decorated the place, ordered food from outside, got smash cakes for them and called a bunch of friends. It was a LOT of work! My SIL was able to come down from California, and it was really nice to have at least some family representation. We really missed having thier grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins! I guess we have to have another party when we go back to India!

I think the highlight of the party were the smash cakes, and how each of them approached it…Adi went all out, smashing the cake, and taking mouthfuls of it. Aru on the other hand was suspicious, as is his nature, treading slowly, before he figured it tasted yummy and he could do whatever he wanted with it…lol! It was super fun to watch them… Cleaning up all the butter and cream after this… NOT so much FUN for us!

I still have to sort thru all the pics and send them out to relatives and friends. Hopefully I can get to that this weekend.

Beach VACATION

We took our 1st official vacation a couple of weeks back to Rehobeth Beach, DE. We had some friends join us at the townhouse we all rented. It was a lot of fun and kids had a good time! They were the center of attention, and I think they have become naughtier since we returned, resorting to all sorts of mischievousness.

The house was big and spacious, facing a pretty lake. The kitchen was well-stocked, and i thought we did a really good job, grilling and cooking in the house. The only downside was that the kids fell a little sick, especially Adi, and there was one night when R and me slept for like 2 hours. That sucked! Adi had a bad case of constipation which led to a lot of pain for him, it was so difficult to watch him… we forced some juice and fluids into him, and he recovered in a day.

The beach was a little chilly, but it was so nice! the kids loved playing in the sand, though they were scared of the waves and water. Spending time and catching up with friends was great, felt like that was long due.

The only sad part of the trip was that both R and me lost our glasses, almost 700$ worth of glasses lost…Now we have to shop for 2 pairs, and that’s not something we needed at this time.

So much has happened since my last post, that i dont know where to begin…! Let me just start with the big hitters!! 🙂

The kids started day-care on March 15th.  Its been quite the roller-coaster since then. For the 1st 2 weeks, the 2 of them would not drink any milk at the daycare…they would only eat some food that i sent with them. That worried me a lot since they were fairly good drinkers till then. We had to come down to giving them 1 bottle at the daycare which they would bring back almost untouched. For the past 2 days though, they have been drinking the full bottle and downing all the food i send as well. I am pretty sure they are going through a growth spurt, and I am happy that they have settled down.

Overall, Aru has adjusted fairly quickly and seems to enjoy the daycare. However Adi is still adjusting, he still cries when we drop him of in the mornings, and he took forever to sleep in the crib at the daycare. He is particularly attached to 1 of the daycare providers, L, and he keeps following her around. There was 1 time when i came in to pick them up, and Aru was busy playing, while Adi was hanging on to the chair on which L was sitting and feeding another baby. It was quite funny and sad…

In the last few weeks, the kids have already been through stomach bug and 2 colds, 1 of which came with fever. I even had to take a day off, to take care of them when Aru was down with a fever.

In addition to them starting daycare, my in-laws left for California on March 22nd, so now its just the 4 of us, which means R and me have to do everything around the house!! We have been managing okay so far, its just that you cannot fall behind EVER, or you will be trying to play catch up for a while!!! Its been after almost a year that we are now finally without any parents staying with us…!!

Another big one this month – We went on our 1st overnight trip away from home with the kids last weekend, and we all did great!! We went to B&V’s house in PA who are almost family to us, and overall it was a successful and fun trip! I am so looking forward to warmer weather when we can travel more.

One of the awesomest( I know.. that’s not a word..!) thing that happened last week was that R landed a JOB!! I am so thrilled and happy and excited…! Now we can start planning the next phase of our lives which is buying a house and settling down!! 🙂

V Day

Posted on: February 17, 2012

I have been ignoring the blog for a while, busy at home, and stressed at work… I did not however stop reading any of the blogs that i usually read, and almost every single one of them had a post on valentine’s day. I am not a big fan of valentine’s day. I think it has just been over-hyped over the last few years especially by retail advertisers and restaurants. I agree that it gives you a day to celebrate your love, and remember to not take each other for granted. But, do you really need a 50$ bouquet of roses, a $200 dinner and/or a special gift? R very well knows how I feel, but back in the days when we were dating, he would send me a bouquet and gifts, and I would always tell him that I did not need those things, but i would not have the heart to make a big deal of it. But eventually, he got the message! :)Don’t get me wrong, I love flowers and gifts, even today, I always try to include in my budget a bouquet of fresh seasonal flowers for the house. It is just that everything is so overpriced on valentine’s day, and it feels like such a waste.

R did get me a single red rose (so sweet!). My MIL had made some yummy Indian sweet called Rasmalai (which translates to Cream and Sugar). So there you go, we had flowers and something sweet to munch, but it was low budget and low key like any other day.

Yesterday’s workout was a failure! Not sure what happened, I thought I was doing so well. I am on week 3 day 3 of the couch to 5K program, and I wasn’t able to jog for more that 1 minute at a stretch. My lower legs were killing me..!! I know I was not tired because my heart rate was not as high as it usually is, it was only my leg which was in a lot of pain. I did complete the workout, but walked instead of jogging… which means I will need to repeat it again. I decided to take a break today and go back tomorrow to see if I feel better. This is definitely a setback!

Also, I havent seemed to have lost weight, even though I have cut back on my eating!

I did have some interesting lunch today!  Food trucks have really caught on here in Baltimore, and some of the trucks serve up some really innovative and tasty food. Today, I went to the Gypsy Queen Food Truck for lunch. I tried the “Curry Chickpea Burrito”. Sounds yummy right? It tasted great!! It did not have any of the usual ingredients like cheese and rice. Instead it had chickpeas (duh!) which was spicy, black beans which was kind of sweetish, fries (oh yes!) and lettuce. Yum Yum! I am definitely going back there!!

Me..

As a young girl, I was brought up in Bangalore, India,  I went to school there, and did my under graduation from there as well. I was a relatively shy girl growing up, but I made some great friends who i am in touch with even now.

I came to the US (Philadelphia) in December 2001, 3 months after the 9/11 attacks. People tell me that I landed in a country that was very different a few months back.
I loved Philadelphia. I made so many wonderful friends there, and it was the first place I learnt to be independent, manage my money, cook my food and make my own decisions. It was one of the best parts of my life even though I had almost no money.

I now live in Baltimore, MD. Baltimore is now my home, this is where I have been the last 6 years, this is where I had my precious babies…

Bangalore, Philadelphia, Baltimore…3 very different cities!! I miss Bangalore a lot, miss my family and friends and miss the everyday chaos that exists there. But then, I think to myself that it is human nature to crave for something that you cannot have, and I think this might be the case here. I miss Philly as well, and this was especially true the first couple of years after I moved from there.

I don’t know where the future will take me, but I am excited for all the surprises that life has to offer…
